Jordi Alba's denial of allegations of refusing to cut wages at Barcelona

Jordi Alba has finally opened up about all the oblique issues that plague him at Barcelona. He confirmed his promise of loyalty to the club, there was no problem with salary.

Some time ago, Alba was heavily criticized for being considered a contributor to the departure of Lionel Messi. Reportedly, Alba refused to cut his salary, this had an impact on Messi's departure because of salary problems as well.

Alba served as one of the club's captains, including a senior player with a large salary. Therefore, he should be among the first players to receive a pay cut.

Most recently, in Barcelona's 4-2 victory over Real Sociedad, Monday (16/8/2021), Alba also became a victim of fan criticism. He was booed by around 20,000 Barca fans who filled the Camp Nou.

Alba was accused of refusing to take a pay cut when contacted by the club before Euro 2020, but the Spanish defender has now vehemently denied this. He asserted that every slanted issue about him was false and fabricated.

"No one called me before Euro 2020, it's fake," Alba said, quoted by Marca.

"When the club spoke to me I wanted to do it. I come from here, spent my whole life in Barcelona. That my commitment is being questioned, it hurts a lot."

"The president has not spoken about this issue, I think he will speak soon and he will tell the truth," he added.

Barca fans allegedly misunderstood because Gerard Pique could have accepted a pay cut sooner, but Alba took quite a while. In fact, Alba made it clear from the start that he was willing to accept the pay cut.

"My lawyers have spoken to the club. Pique's case was resolved faster just because the timing was right, but all captains always have that desire," continued Alba.

"This lie bothers me, makes me sick. I can accept criticism, but I feel sorry for my family and the terrible things they have to hear," he said.
