Denzel Dumfries was recruited by Inter Milan to be projected to cover the departure of Achraf Hakimi. He has the potential to be a substitute commensurate with Hakimi.
Inter have just officially announced Denzel Dumfries as their new signing, Saturday (14/8/2021) WIB. The Dutch national team player was recruited by the Nerazzurri from PSV Eindhoven for a transfer value of 12.5 million euros or around Rp. 211 billion.
Dumfries is expected to cover the departure of Achraf Hakimi who left for Paris Saint-Germain. Inter accepted Hakimi's departure after PSG paid him 70 million euros.
Being an equal replacement for Hakimi on the right side of the Inter defense is definitely not an easy task for Dumfries. This is because Hakimi appeared charming with The Snake by packing seven goals and 11 assists in all competitions last season. These incisions helped Inter end the season with the Scudetto.
However, if you look at Dumfries' performances with PSV and the Dutch national team in the last few matches, he has great potential to answer these expectations. Dumfries has a playing style similar to Hakimi as an aggressive full-back assisting the attack. He is also fluent in carrying out the role of a wingback or right wing.
Dumfries was able to contribute four goals and nine assists in all competitions for PSV last season. He played a lot at right-back in the 4-2-3-1 formation developed by the Dutch giants.
He also demonstrated Dumfries' aggressiveness in attacking with the Dutch national team at the 2020 European Cup. Moreover, Dumfries has a role in helping more attacks because he acts as a wingback. He stole the show by packing one goal and two assists for Team Orange to be stopped in the last 16 at Euro 2020.
Dumfries' dribbling and key pass statistics last season were also not inferior to Hakimi's. Quoted from WhoScored, Dumfries recorded an average of 0.9 dribbles per game in the Dutch League last season. This score is the same as that recorded by Hakimi with Inter in Serie A 2020/2021.
As for key passes, Dumfries' record in the Dutch League last season was even better than Hakimi's in Serie A. Dumfries recorded an average of 1.9 key passes per game while Hakimi only made an average of one key pass per game.
