Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand is relieved to see Juan Mata in the current Red Devils squad. He thinks Mata is a very important player for the MU squad even though he rarely plays.
In recent years, Mata has begun to lose his place in the Manchester United main squad. He was unable to compete with names such as Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes so he sat on the bench more.
Mata's own contract runs out this summer. But Manchester United managed to convince the playmaker to stay at least until 2022.
According to Ferdinand, United have taken the right steps to keep Mata. "Juan is a back-up in this team, where he played 18 games last season. But he is still given a chance and he always helps this team," Ferdinand told FIVE.
